Previously, web designers optimized keyword usage through a system that communicated better with search engines than with visitors and users. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) was the primary focus and spreading keywords onto a site was more important than the message. The purpose was to attract search engines to list the site on priority pages – and as a result users were faced with a lack of content and low quality information which was often just incorporated into strange designs.
Keyword spammers converged on the web, resulting in changes with search engine companies. These companies began changing the process for how spiders looked at different websites related to specific keywords. Now, visitors and users will get more than a big chunk of spam. Also designs of the websites are more seo friendly but still designers can use their "freedom" to incorporate different things especially with platforms as Wordpress or similar using number of themes, plugins and widgets (slideshows, videos, animations, surveys, social media interactivity....)
These changes did not minimize the importance of SEO techniques. Keywords are valuable for search engines to rank the importance of websites. Rather, these changes add value to the content on the websites. Now, a website could be about widgets and include relevant content. However, if the word widget is splattered all over the page, the search engine may consider the page useless.
This improvement allows web designers to create a better, more useful website. The content is developed around the primary keyword. SEO is about mixing the primary keyword and related words throughout the mage content. The content is naturally readable. This enables the search engine to identify the page positively and move it up in search engine rankings.
Another way to have a quality website using SEO techniques is with meta-data descriptions. This includes the primary keyword, along with a brief description of the web page content. Additionally, the title page may include the keyword, presenting a natural flow of the keyword. Web designers can include both the primary keyword and related words sparingly, providing quality content.
Quality also involves making use of white space. Too many words on a web page can tire users. Balancing the white space throughout the web page is an attractive approach. Aesthetically appealing web pages make it less likely that users will opt for the competition. Graphics and smart use of HTML titles can also include the primary keyword without clutter.
The old adage "less is more" is good advice for designing a web page. Including keywords without relevant content will have an opposite effect on users. The sophistication of search engines requires a smart use of primary and related keywords. Minimum use of these words will accomplish the desired goal – attracting search engines and users.
